A walk across the Arno river (beyond the Arno) that will take you to discover the most authentic and picturesque face of Florence, away from the busiest streets yet close to the historic centre. If discovering the true Florentine essence is what you are looking for, this tour is for you! You can only say that you really know Florence after you have taken a stroll through the Santo Spirito and San Frediano areas, amidst the market stalls, artisan shops and churches of these charming neighbourhoods.

You’ll join your local guide in this fascinating adventure to discover the left side of the Arno river (beyond Arno, as the Florentines call it). You’ll explore the lesser known areas and learn the secrets of this popular neighbourhood, a real maze of alleys and lanes. Walking through the narrow streets you will run into typical artisan workshops and jewellers’ shops all the way to Piazza Santo Spirito, dominated by the Basilica that gives its name to this district. Built on a project by Filippo Brunelleschi, the Basilica of Santo Spirito is the last masterpiece of the famous architect. Continuing your walk, you will admire the magnificent Palazzo Pitti, last residence of the Medici family. The building is connected to the Uffizi by the Vasari Corridor, a secret passage used by the Medici to move around freely without mingling with the commoners. Walking in the direction of Ponte Vecchio you will reach the church of Santa Felicita, home to the Deposition of the Cross (a painting by Pontormo). The building is famous for the window situated above the entrance, obtained from a portion of the Vasari Corridor, which enabled the Grand Dukes to attend mass in privacy. The next stop will take you to San Niccolò, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Florence, where the tour ends.
