This is an incredible tour allowing you to discover Florence and its great Churches, this isn’t a classic tour but a tranquil one.

Inside these imposing monuments you can find art treasures which were generally commissioned by rich families to adorn and add beauty to places of worship. Often as a gesture in order to make peace with the church or to be pardoned for sins that they didn’t have intentions of stopping.

The tour starts at the Basilica of Santa Croce where you will meet your professional guide who will accompany you to discover the artistic heritage of Florence. This church is one of the most important Franciscan churches, the original structure dates from 1212 when Saint Francis of Assisi chose this marshy, inhospitable area to settle with a group of followers.
Inside, the church hosts an immense heritage including beautiful frescoes by Giotto and an unusual sculpture by Donatello in pietra serena, a locally sourced stone.
You will also find the monumental tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli and many other famous artists and poets.
Along with your guide you will visit The Scuola del Cuoio situated behind the  Church. The school was founded by the Franciscan brothers to help orphans from the Second World War to learn a craft working with leather.

The tour proceeds through the streets of Florence until you arrive at another magnificent Basilica, San Lorenzo, the first cathedral in Florence. The structure you will see is a result of the last intervention in 1419 by Filippo Brunelleschi under the influence of the Medici.
In the nave you can admire two incredible pulpits by Donatello and The Annunciation by Filippo Lippi, proceeding you will see the Old Sacristy, an important example  of architecture designed by Brunelleschi with decorative details by Donatello.

After visiting San Lorenzo you will visit another of Florence’s pearls, the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, built by the Franciscan Domenicani in 1279. Elegant in design and with its incredible multi-coloured marble facade Santa Maria Novella is one of the most important gothic churches in Tuscany. A coffer of incredible Treasures, inside you can admire extraordinary masterpieces, The Holy Trinity by Masaccio, frescoes by Ghirlandaio, The Crucifix of Giotto, Brunelleschi’s Cristo Ligneo and a series of paintings by Filippino Lippi and Paolo Uccello. During the visit your guide will present these marvellous works, passing through the chapels you will eventually arrive at the monumental Spanish Church.

The tour ends after visiting Santa Maria Novella, you are then free to continue to discover and learn whilst ambling the streets of this fascinating and marvellous city.
